ABOUT THE PADDLETEK ONE POINT CHALLENGE
MLP, in partnership with Paddletek, will be hosting the first-ever Paddletek One Point Challenge – featuring 128 doubles teams (256 amateur players) in a one-point-per-round, single-elimination event with $25,000 on the line – as part of the Edward Jones Mid-Season Tournament in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The event is open to amateur players and will take place in Grand Rapids from Thursday, July 9-Sunday, July 12 (all proceeds will go to the Belknap Park Foundation). The final eight teams will then be split up and drafted by 16 MLP pros.

SCHEDULE
- Wed, July 8: Registration closes at Noon (unless capacity already reached)
- Wed, July 8: Participants will receive check-in times for the Round of 128 via email
- Thu, July 9: Amateur Rd of 128 teams (Court Activation Zone, 2-6 p.m.)
- Fri, July 10: Amateur Rd of 64, 32, 16 (Court Activation Zone, 2-6 p.m.)… Pros then draft remaining amateurs
- Sat, July 11: Pro Am Rd of 16 (Championship Court (C.C.), TBD)
- Sun, July 12: Pro Am Rd of 8 (QF), 4 (SF), 2 (Doubles Final), Singles Final, and Award Ceremony (C.C., 1 p.m.)
TOURNAMENT FORMAT & RULES
- The tournament follows a single-elimination format with a $25,000 total prize pool on the line (winning doubles team will play each other in a single-point singles round; winner earns $20,000 and runner-up takes home $5,000)
- Players who register with a partner are guaranteed to compete with that partner through the amateur Round of 16. All other amateur pairings will be assigned
- Opposing matchups are randomized through the amateur Round of 16
- No warm-up time will be provided prior to matches
- A referee will conduct a coin flip to determine serve/receive or side selection
- Any team using more PaddleTek paddle(s) (maximum one per player) than their opposing team will automatically “win” the coin flip
- Starting positions may be selected by players through the Amateur Round of 16
- The referee will:
- Announce the start and end of each match
- Monitor for foot faults
- Overrule line calls only upon request and when confident in the decision
- Matches utilize rally scoring to one (1) point, with no side-outs
- The winner of the service point wins the match
- Following the completion of the Amateur Round of 16 on Friday:
- 16 MLP professional players and personnel will be added to the draw on Saturday to form a second Round of 16
- MLP players will draft their amateur partners
- Teams will be seeded based on the average DUPR rating of each pair
- These amateur-pro teams will remain together for the remainder of the tournament
- Matchups will be made based on seed for the remainder of the tournament
- Amateur players must begin play on the right side (both serve and receive of serve)
- Following the doubles final:
- The two winning teammates will compete in a one-point singles match to determine the grand prize winner
- The amateur player will automatically win the coin flip as a handicap
- The tournament director retains the right to make changes to the rules, format, and schedule at any time
No-Show Policy
Round of 128
- Teams failing to appear within 5 minutes of their scheduled start time will forfeit the match
- Eligible players not currently active in the tournament may serve as substitutes if secured within the 5-minute window
- If no substitute is found, the match will be forfeited
- Substitutes participating in the Round of 128 must remain with the team for the remainder of the tournament
- No new substitutes will be permitted after the first round of play
Subsequent Rounds
- All players are expected to be present for the full duration of the event
- Matches involving absent players will be deferred and played as soon as the player becomes available
- This flexibility is intended to accommodate players with BCO or MLP match obligations
- At the conclusion of the round, any player(s) who have not appeared to compete will forfeit their match
